Ron and Kathy Goble

"He Turned My Desert into a Garden" has been Ron and Kathy Goble's theme song for several years. They have found strength through Jesus Christ the Lord to battle a chronic illness and to conquer the resulting emotional trauma by accepting God's hope and comfort in the midst of
their trials.
Before the illness occurred, Ron and Kathy were living a life of self-sufficient, upward-mobility. Being high-energy people, their careers held vital interest for them. Indeed, life seemed great with two beautiful children, a loving family, successful careers, a new home and good friends to complete the picture. They had no idea what God would allow to mature them from a "Sunday-morning" kind of faith to a life focused daily, moment by moment, on Jesus Christ. Over the course of two years, 1) Kathy contracted scleroderma, becoming an invalid; 2) she gave birth to healthy twins that increased the number of their family to four children; and 3) they moved from Pennsylvania across country to Arizona to hopefully improve Kathy's health. With each ache and pain came a new question and a new struggle.

The desert was a perfect metaphor for their souls—dried up, lonely and thirsting for comfort; but Ron and Kathy weren't alone in their desert for God was with them. It was there that they received the assurance that their questions would be answered. Then in learning how to apply the Scripture to life's problems, God began to quench their thirst and taught them to change their focus from seeking answers to seeking Himself, the Answer Giver. God has changed their lives from a barren, parched, spiritual desert into a fragrant, thriving garden.

Their life verse became "In all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us" (Romans 8:37). Not wanting anyone to suffer a needless "desert," Ron and Kathy have shared this verse and the resulting truths of God's sufficiency with others

Ron and Kathy Goble began the Caring Conquerors support group ministry in 1984 at Scottsdale Bible Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, giving hurting people the opportunity to discover the same comfort they have found. The ministry was born out of their search to find answers for Kathy's illness, and the feelings it generated within them, both individually and as a couple. Because they didn't want to see others suffer needlessly, they designed Caring Conquerors to provide the abiding hope and comfort of the Lord to those who experience the effects of long-term and sometimes life-threatening chronic and disabling physical health challenges, offering Biblical truths for painful questions.

Caring Conquerors, Inc., the two study books and the leadership manual are a compilation of Ron and Kathy's more than thirty years of personal and practical experience with a chronic illness, their extensive research and study, and the time they've spent facilitating local support groups as trained lay counselors. Through their recent publications, many churches and organizations now have the opportunity to develop their own Caring Conquerors support groups and to minister to the overwhelming, ongoing needs of the chronically challenged.
